The Hermit

I drove up to Sitting Bull Falls yesterday. Not crazy about the shots I got, but I did get a chance to talk to the caretaker there…

Byron is in charge of opening and closing the park, answering visitors questions and general maintenance of the park. He lives alone in a little trailer and has lived there for two years. When I commented about how long a drive it is to town (at least 40 miles) and how it must be hell running for supplies, he said he doesn’t go into town. He knows a couple of women who bring him food and supplies. He’s got water, electric, sewer and propane. He seemed quite content with this life. And you thought I was weird.

In some ways I envy him. It would be a great getaway for a writer.

Thank-you. Wayne
