The Benefits of Emptiness

I received an email the other day from a woman who had commented on my “Liquid Level” article. Due to a number of things, including being a “Liquid,” she had experienced much loss…

Thanks for the insight and putting into words about being a fluid person. It is a lonely and difficult road at times. I moved away from my solid friends to find fluid friends and you said it very eloquently that even fluid friends are like waves in an ocean going in different directions. I’ve been out of work due to the economy for 7 months and it’s the challenge of a lifetime all the while losing loved ones that are passing over. Five people in two years, five pets, several friends due to my fluidness, a job and my fiance. I know I’m being tested and made stronger in the process. Comforting words along the way where ever I can find them are helpful. Thank you for yours! Good luck on your journey!
One of the fascinating things about Nature is how She fills emptiness with life and beauty. Often when we simplify our lives, or have them emptied by circumstances, we soon awaken to new passions and creative energies.
As I spend time alone out here in the Arizona desert, I have this conditioned urge to busy myself, to fix all these little things that “need” fixing. If I resist this conditioning though, soon my Muse starts whispering from the Stillness and I am filled with appreciation.
The above photo is of my “writing” table, where I write notes and ideas for the new book on index cards in preparation for outlining them later on the computer. I just sit outside, gaze out into the distance and wait for the ideas to pop out of the Stillness. It’s almost magical.
