Urban Stealth Camping
June 17th, 2009 by Wayne (Wirs)
I’m going to attempt my first urban boondocking experiment tonight…
I checked out of the noisy campground this morning, and instead of heading on to distant cities, I drove to the mall, got a new set of glasses, and am now “day camped” at a little county park. Day camping is simply another phrase for “parked.” It’s very pleasant and quiet here.
The park closes at dusk, which is around 9:30 up here in the northern climes, and a little prior to that I’ll move on to my night camp. I have three spots already picked out as options for this evening. First option is a hospital. From what I read, they often let RV’ers who have a loved one in the hospital stay overnight in their parking lots. Since I pretty much love everyone, I figure I’m good, but if that doesn’t work out, I saw a vacant lot nearby which had an RV parked in it and, as a last resort, a line of semi’s were parked behind a K-mart the other day.
The idea is, you pull into a night camp late, crash, get up early and move on. Day camps can be parks, malls, scenic vistas, pretty much anywhere your rig can fit.
