More Nudity

Warrior’s Path S.P., Kingsport, TN–A follow up to “Naked In A Stream“:

One of the hardest points to get across to spiritual seekers is that when it comes to enlightenment, there is nothing to gain.

Enlightenment is like dropping the clothes that you have been wearing all your life.

Nothing is gained. No new skills are acquired.

Over the course of your entire life, you have been naked under your clothes.

That reminds me …. I’ve been meaning to tell you about Jed McKenna. “It’s not about becoming true; it’s about unbecoming false.” ~Jed McKenna (What you wrote in the post above made me think of that quote).

Thanks Doug. First I heard of him was via your website. He says it straight–but if his intention is to help people wake up, I don’t think his method is very effective. As with most hard-core non-dualists, they neglect the feeling/emotional aspect of enlightenment and focus only on the mental (half the picture). But his video has given me some ideas :)

Hi Wayne – “All good” as they say. : ) You know how it works: the intuition to recommend (or do/not do anything) happens either consciously, or just via flow, and here we are. I just had a loose sense that Jed, and/or the link that I posted, might be of interest to you and/or your readers, on some level (I didn’t know if you had seen the related info at Living Unbound, or not), and it sounds like that’s the case (the video ideas you mentioned). I’m fairly “into” Jed at the moment, purely per the fact that I’m glad somebody is saying certain things the way he says them, along with the fact that in conjunction with you, Jed goes into more clearly-authentic “enlightenment in daily life” details {in his books} than anyone else I’ve seen, albeit in an often abrasive-seeming (yet often witty, funny and profound, too) way — enlightenment never “lights” the same way twice, it seems. On the other hand, though, of the “not for everybody” spiritual teachers I’ve run across, Jed McKenna is one of the *most* “not for everybody” I’ve ever seen – which is exactly as it should be; just like everything else. : ) PS- I agree re “the feeling aspect” to a certain degree (i.e. I agree that it’s the other half of the mental-emotional equation; I just think Jed has, and communicates, a bit more of it than he’s given credit for — but not necessarily by a lot); Zen is much the same way (as Jed’s approach). It works – enlightenment can and will happen, but it’s an unecessarily rough road compared to some more integrated options, I’d say.
