Spiritual Guide vs. Spiritual Teacher

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL–You may have noticed I changed the name of this blog again, Down-to-Earth Enlightenment. Recently I came to realize how my “way” differs from almost all the other spiritual teachers out there.

Most enlightenment teachers teach from the top down: “This is what Heaven’s like. Come on up.” They provide an “open space” for the student to find their own way to enlightenment. They sit, they glow, and they beckon.

That’s just not my way. I tend to work from the ground up. I work best in the trenches, taking the hand of whomever I’m helping and guiding them up out of the darkness. I’ve had years and years of experience in corporate America doing just that. I was always the favored “tech guy” to go to because I helped people truly understand what was wrong (without making them feel stupid)–and I’d do it in a down-to-earth, approachable, and easy to get manner.

Part of the “Awakening Pregnancy” thing (bottom of this post) seems to be this insight: I am more of a spiritual guide than a spiritual teacher. I’m more comfortable helping people one-on-one–getting results–than some guy sitting up there in front of a crowd, glowing and smiling. I can glow and smile like the rest of them, but I really don’t like that approach. It just feels to distant for me. Too impractical.

I’m not ruling out talks–hell, I’m not ruling anything out–I just don’t want my style to be sit, smile, glow, and beckon.

down to earth enlightenment…I like it, and the wry humor in it. Just don’t be so sure “your way” is the only one out there that is not top down. (that would sure make you “special”). The new paradigm for sharing awakening/enlightenment has changed from the hierarchical, aesthetc, disengaged masculine model to a much more egalitarian gathering in truth in which there is not a “teacher’. The guru has become the group wisdom, embodied in many. Buddha talked about Maitreya coming to be the next teacher of truth, a couple thousand years after him. Maitreya means “friend”.

Love your sight Carol also see you Wayne as more of a friendly guy/de!

Feel that when we tread the path of the heart, sight is with different eyes.. Therefore the gifts which we are graced with lie within us all. In some slumbering, in others fully awakened and acting under their command as tools to help those who come for guidance. For it is only possible to see within another that which is also within ourselves. Such a one only guide, inspire and nudge us to follow our own inner light to listen to the divine sound within. The role of the messenger of love; the path we are destined for in this life.
From these beings are flowing currents of love and consciousness so strong that by their mere presence or sitting near them the mind is inclined to get under control and stilled to some extent. The teaching of these ones are imparted in a unspoken language, the language of the soul. The soul is a particle of God and His great mystery. It speaks without tongue or throat. In such a one God has hidden a sun.. (probably why they seem to glow ;) The rays of the sun shine on everyone. Every being has and is a divine capacity we only need remember this…
This mornings quote in my diary had my thoughts turned to your post, “I lift you and you lift me and we both ascend together” ..
