A Perfect Camp

Steele Creek Camp, Whitney, TX

Steele Creek Park, COE Camp, Whitney, TX—Yesterday I put down $14 and stayed a day in a pay campground. The reasons:

  • Electricity to top up the battery bank (my last camp had both overcast skies and shadows from trees)
  • Dump the holding tanks
  • Fill the fresh water tank
  • A long, long hot shower (vs my typical Navy showers)
  • Laundry

Then this morning, I moved to Steele Creek Park, another Corps of Engineers (COE) free camp. The lake on two sides. Lots of open space (shadow-free for my solar). Great Verizon signal for the Internet. There is even drinking water here.

Best of all: Solitude. Once again I have the place all to myself.

There’s a lot to be said for contrarian camping (camping during the local off-season).
