Something’s Wrong With The World Today…

A Place To Rest

A Place To Rest

MT BAKER NF, WA—Though people have been saying this for ages, lately the world really does seem to be going to hell.

What’s the point of all this practice of Radiance and Emptiness and the Eternal? Isn’t it all a form of escapism? Just how is Mystical Oneness practical? Who’s it benefit except yourself? Isn’t it all—ironically—self-centered?

With my new-found freedom, I’ve been thinking about these questions a lot lately. I’ve been wondering if maybe I need to shift my focus just a wee bit higher than I have been.

Take a look at the world today. I believe that 90% of today’s problems would vanish if people would stop taking their thoughts so seriously.

Go ahead and read the news and see if you don’t agree with me. “That guy is taking his thoughts too seriously. That guy is too. And him, and her, and those guys…”

The less there is of the ego, the more there is of LoveLuck and Serenity.

More Love. More Luck. More Serenity. I think that would make for a much better world.

Maybe I’ve been thinking too small…

  1. Wayne you are exactly where you suppose to be. Like the old adage goes, a drowning man must save himself first before he can save others. If you feel ready, then it’s time to live for others through “her”. There is no more agenda, your own needs inconsequential when there’s no more “you”. Just help as many people as she allows in her own special way, “you” get the pleasure of witnessing pure magic along the way.♥ Much love brother.

  2. On the one hand, if everything is One, by changing yourself you are changing the whole. Is it easier to change yourself or the World ? On the other, Jesus sent our his disciples with the Good News. Does God act in the World only through us ? The paradox may be that both are true: even by thinking in this way, you are changing both yourself and the World.

  3. I agree with your analysis of the world’s problems. If only people could make the distinction between feelings and thinking, e.g. just because this is how I feel (e.g angry and disrespected) doesn’t mean that X is the cause of it and that I should therefore do Y. Too many people ‘nursing their wrath to keep it warm’ to quote Robert Burns.

  4. Yes, it would help. A bit less focus on I-me-mine. A bit more compassion. A bit more general happiness and less suffering. Not clear how to get there, but work at the individual body-mind is probably where it starts.

  5. I kinda agree with all the stories that it’s not what you do but how you do it, your actions not your words that make the difference. I also feel that each person is like a snowflake, unique and with different gifts. Some people are musicians, some write stories, some make movies, others are bankers, so the world as we know it continues on in much the same way as it did before. But this time it’s dancing from emptiness. I recall a video with Eckart Tolle where he talked about a worker in a coffee shop, if he was absolutely present for people that came in, that he could just serve them coffee and be alive and present. That by giving them presence, he was giving the greatest gift of all. So again, it’s not so much the words but the actions. Another video he talks about how even with a spiritual teacher, it’s not so much the words or lessons that are important, that they are secondary. The true teaching is the living water, the living word. So my personal heartfelt advice to you would be, from the living word and your own gifts and passion, how can you manifest stillness in the world among others. How can you simultaneously (be in this world) = express your karma and story self and (not of it) = remain as the true self? That for me seems to be the truest expression of the Tao. A river flows, a bird flies, a fish will swim, this is what’s in my own heart at least.
