“Snow,” my mind said as I lay in bed, looking out the window just as clump fell from a branch. As the clump fell, it released a cloud, and—backlit by the morning sun—a forest sprite appeared and drifted briefly through the wood, lost, only to succumb to the hardness of the material world… collapsing and dying and fading into the ground.
“Snow,” my Mind said.
But my Heart saw a forest sprite.
Have you ever met someone who just “gets” you? Your Mind says they understand you, but your Heart feels/knows/experiences that they get you.
Have you ever seen a child struggle with a math problem? Their face is all tense as their Mind works it through, then suddenly they get it and all the muscles in their face relax and they smile and shine and glow and their Heart soars as they shout, “Mommy! Look, I got it!”
One of the worst things about “enlightenment”—of when you dis-identify from the Mind—is that hardly anyone will ever “get” you again. You’ll always be that unsolvable math problem. While you talk of forest sprites, mostly all they’ll see are clumps of falling snow.
The Heart lives in a world of experiences.
The Mind lives in a world of explanations.
The Mind understands enlightenment. It understands the Witness, it understands Unity and Oneness and God…
But the Heart experiences them. The Heart feels them. The Heart perceives them.
Yesterday’s post can be read from the Mind, and it should be read from the Mind, and it must be read from the Mind…
But what does it feel like to step through the Gateless Gate? What does it feel like to see and to experience the collapse of the boundaries between your inner world and the exterior world? What does it feel like to BE one with the world?
What does it feel like when you read of an experiment that finally explains why you feel the way you feel when you open to Emptiness?
It feels like they get you.
There’s more to this, much more. Yesterday I described the snow, but today I wanted to stop you, to take your arm and raise a finger to my lips to signal silence…
and point into the gloom at the woods filled with forest sprites.
