Nomad Randy

One of the reasons I returned to this area was to check out the rig of one of the people who inspired me to become a nomad. Nearly two years ago I came across Randy’s website. What caught my attention was that he had converted a cargo trailer into a stealthy RV trailer. Since he was in the northwest and I’ve been considering “downgrading” to a more stealthy vehicle, I invited myself over to check out his rig – to which he readily agreed, even though he knew nothing of me…

Back on Mt. Hood

2009_08_08_01.jpg

I’m back at my boondock spot on Mt. Hood (Oregon). I’m here for a couple of reasons: There’s a fellow nomad in the area whom I want to meet and check out his rig; I want some isolation to ebook-tize my other books; and I want to figure out my next steps without distractions.

Though it’s been less than a month since I was here before, a couple changes are apparent: It’s quite a bit colder; all the flowers in this shot are gone; and there are a lot more birds about. Funny how quickly a tiny clearing changes.

The Grotto

Chapel in the Grotto

I had never been to The Grotto before – never even heard of it before yesterday. As it turned out, it is place of retreat for friars and nuns of the Servite Order within the Catholic Church. Very peaceful place. I wasn’t struck dead by lightning or anything, which quite frankly kind of surprised me.

Seriously though, if you’re in the area, stop by. It’s a very peaceful place for reflection.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom! Sorry you raised such a forgetful idiot.

Love You!

Return to Lake Pleasant

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

2009-02-05-01.jpg

I’ve been feeling the need to be near water. Since I had to move my rig to get my propane tank refilled, I used the opportunity to return to Lake Pleasant.

Below are a couple of nice emails I’ve received in the last few days. Used with permission…

Blog Changes

Sunset in AZ

I’ve made a lot of changes to the blog. Please check it out and let me know if you see or have any problems with it.

I’ve spent yesterday and most of today upgrading WordPress (the blog software) playing with plugins, changing the layout, etc. Still want to add some new tabs across the top and re-write a few of the info pages yet. I know I’m speaking Comp-nerd-ian, but you get the point.

The blog should look like the image below the break…

Moving On – Pilgrim

2008-01-04-01.jpg

I’ve been here in Catalina State Park for two weeks now. That’s the longest most parks allow you to stay and fits in well with my nature. Two weeks is usually long enough for me. I checked out some BLM locations yesterday, so maybe I’ll do a little boondocking starting tomorrow.

In regards to my focus – I’ll be making a few changes here and there…

My Focus

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

2008-01-03-03.jpg

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I’ve been waiting for my focus to clarify. What I want, need and feel I’m supposed to be doing. I set my mental alarm clock last night for 6 am, and at 6:01 this morning, my focus became clear…

Focus

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

2008-01-02-01.jpg

I’ve been contemplating my “focus” over the last few days. What I should be focusing my attention on. What my message should be. What direction I want to take my work. 2008 was full of changes for me, a lot of things happened – and in a lot of different directions.

I hope to find more clarity of purpose in 2009, to open up to the stillness and allow more flow and harmony into this strange and nomadic life.

Juarez, Mexico

2008-12-16-01.jpg

I arrived in El Paso, TX yesterday evening. Paid for a week so I could have some time to explore the area. This morning, I walked into Juarez, Mexico (and “no,” Mom, I didn’t see a single drug cartel or gang member). Very nice people. Strolled down to the local outdoor market to get a feel for the flavor of Mexico. Very cool. I only wish I was eating as I love mexican food. Oh well. The above shot is of the Guadalupe Mission.

For more on the juice fast, see my notes after the break…

Lots of Little Fixes

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

2008-12-12-02.jpg

The boondocking in the desert has revealed a couple little problems with the RV, so I’ve spent the last few days doing maintenance and upgrades. I’ve also run out of fresh water in my holding tanks so it looks like I may be moving on tomorrow.

I’ve fixed two water leaks, swapped out my old house battery which wasn’t holding a charge any longer and added a new stand-alone house battery, inverter and battery charger to give me a bit more time without having to use the generator so often.

All of these problems weren’t apparent until I was operating in self-contained mode, so it was a good experience.

The Mysterious Box

2008-12-12-01.jpg

Just above my campsite, in the middle of the high mountain desert, is this mysterious box. Yesterday, as I was hiking back down the hill from my morning meditation, I saw a man poking around inside it…

Boondocking up in the Hills

2008-12-08-01.jpg

Day 2 of the fast. Hunger comes and goes. Much easier than the water fast. I’ve moved camp to up in the hills outside of Carlsbad, NM. The “Location” link shows my exact spot (click the title above). Wide open spaces, privacy, and free. I haven’t seen that in years.

Searching and Synchronicity

2008-12-06-01.jpg

I drove to the local BLM (Bureau of Land Management) to pick up some maps of the area. I’ve decided to do some boondocking and wanted to know where I could stay. They are closed Saturdays, but as luck would have it, a ranger pulled into the lot just as I was about to leave…

The West

Friday, December 5th, 2008

I’ve been getting a lot of flak lately that I’m not posting enough. One of my self imposed rules, was that I’d post a photo for each entry, but that has been restricting me from posting when I had something important (yeah right) to say.

So I’m going to start breaking that rule right now. No photo today.

Over the last two days, I’ve driven over 1200 miles. Last night, I camped out overnight in a Flying J parking lot on the border of Louisiana and Texas. Today, I drove clear across Texas and am now camped in an RV park in Carlsbad, NM.

I’m tired. I’m stinky and I have no clue what time it really is. But the West is where I’m supposed to be. Feels right. The light, the wide open places, the long empty roads.

I’m starting a juice fast come Sunday. Most of my adult life, I’ve been deeply spiritual but mostly from a mental / philosophical / meditative level. Part of this long jaunt across the country is to start living it physically too. I’ve been eating about 50 grams of fiber a day the last couple of days (Oroweat Double fiber bread – just add butter) to help clean out the pipes in preparation.

Tomorrow, I’m going to scout the area to try to find a place that is conducive to what I’m trying to do. Something about deserts inspires transformation.

Powell, Alabama

DougsShotWeb.jpg

This is a photo by Doug Coone, whom I’ve been staying with for the last couple days. They got some snow up here in Alabama while I was down in Florida. You can see my RV experiencing her first snow.

Today I’m heading out for parts unknown. West, but unknown.

Heading North Again

2008-11-29-02.jpg

The entire family got together yesterday at my folks place in Palm Bay, FL – a belated Thanksgiving. It was great to see everyone again. I’m already starting to receive some “Thank-You” donations for the Past Life Recall download I released the other day. The little “ding’s” from Paypal sending a notification to my inbox feels like the ringing of a bell when an angel gets their wings from “It’s a Wonderful Life.” It’s a nice reminder that people are really getting something out of my work.

Staying in Savannah, GA tonight. Will take some photos tomorrow morning and get them posted ASAP.

The final, and free, version of the Past Life Recall Download is now online. You can find it here. I’m taking a down day in Ormond Beach, FL after two long days of driving before heading down to see the folks in Palm Bay tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving!

Standing in the Rain

I stand at the end of the dock, listening to the rain hit the water. Except for a few ducks, I have the lake to myself. Smarter folks than I are sheltering in their cars and campers…

Heading out Tomorrow

2008-11-12-04.jpg

Breaking my SC camp tomorrow and heading over toward the GA, AL area. My friend Doug is letting me keep my RV at his place while I head down to FL to see the family.

Getting great feedback from the beta-testers of the Past Life Recall MP3. Though I’ve only heard from about half of them, their insights and suggestions are invaluable. Thanks everyone!

Beta Testing Closed

I now have 15 volunteer beta testers, so I’m won’t need anymore for the moment. Of you 15, I will need your feedback once you’ve had the chance to listen to the recording a few times. Thanks!

Here are my notes from last night’s session of listening to the beta of the Past Life Recall Guided Meditation (I really need a better name)…

Out My Window

2008-11-08-02.jpg

Yesterday, I had the towing stuff installed on my Jeep and RV. Towing the Jeep back to my campsite was surprisingly effortless. Other than a little slower acceleration, you hardly know it is back there. This will work out well as I’m really enjoying the Jeep.
