How Do You Know Your Limits Unless You Reach Them?

The Sad Results of Getting Stuck the First Time

The Sad Results of Getting Stuck the First Time

I almost got Serenity stuck yesterday—well, I did for about five minutes—but the traction control feature on the van allowed me to keep both wheels rotating which pulled me out.

Then again this morning, I found out I was stuck again. After getting unstuck yesterday, I just pulled into the first, dry-looking spot and made camp, but—as I found out this morning—the ground was still too soft and I quickly became mired in again. This time, it took me about an hour to get unstuck (dug trenches on both sides of all four wheels to reduce resistance, then filled the drive-wheel trenches with pinecones for traction).

You never know your limits until you reach them, and in this case, Serenity’s limits are still a bit deeper in the mud.

Which brings up a key point with the Ascetic Aspect: The Ascetic is all about finding your limits.Read more…

The last few days I’ve been forcing myself (a very non-Ascetic attitude) to work on probably the hardest part of the book: The evidence of reincarnation for the Soul section.

love writing, but what I’m doing now isn’t writing in a creative way—it is summarizing long, complicated, deeply researched case histories into short, easy to understand paragraphs…

and it’s miserable.

Seriously, miserable. … Read more…

I resolve to be aware of Her,

to listen to Her

to surrender to Her…

so that She may live more fully.

I resolve to see Her…

to see Her in everything my eyes fall upon,

and to see Her in everyone I meet—even when She’s clouded over by their egos.

I resolve to relax…

to relax inhibitions (for inhibitions are of the Ego),

and to relax self-boundaries,

and my sense of control.

I resolve to live in harmony with Her…

in my Mind and in my Heart and in the World.

But I do not resolve to love Her.

For there is no need.

How could I not love Her?

She is me and I am Her…

and She is you.

What was the inner experience like for Christ? Let’s forget the biblical stories and miracles and lessons for a moment, but instead (what you focus on, you become) focus on what it is to be so awake that the Divine and the Individual become practically indistinguishable from each other.

What follows is the highest form of spiritual practice that I am capable of. I wish everyone could see and experience life this way, so in humbleness, please consider this my Christmas gift to you. … Read more…

As I was leaving camp yesterday, I glanced over to see a few cows gathered around a mysterious wooden device some rancher had left for them. Rather than try to discern the purpose of the wooden box, I noticed that I felt a great love for both the cows and the unknown rancher who had placed it there.

I was surprised at this reaction, at this sudden feeling of Love, and I knew I was getting better. … Read more…

I had no intention of writing yesterday’s post.

For the last few days, I’ve been alternating between working on the book and migrating toward warmer, drier climates. I’ll write and research for a few hours over a cup of coffee in a local cafe, then grab a bite to eat, and drive for an hour or two until I find a camp. Then I’ll chill out, watch a DVD, sleep, and repeat the next day.

It’s working out well. I get a nice mix of wilderness, civilization, and travel/thinking time.

And while I’ve been having a lot of insights lately and lots to share with you (and none of it having anything to do with the Soul) for some reason She had me write yesterday’s post. … Read more…

“I don’t think that’s legal,” he said, referring to the rope and sign I’d strung up across the entrance to my camp: “Campsite Occupied. (Dead End)”.

I didn’t have a leg to stand on, so I told the truth.

“I just got tired off all the trucks driving in here, seeing my rig, and turning around and heading out.”

Neither hunter liked that answer much and gave off the vibe that this was their forest as much as it was mine and wandered down along the stream to kill some ducks. … Read more…
