In The Mystic, the major plot line is (will probably be) discovering and achieving the purpose of the Apprentice’s life. Initially—when the Apprentice first meets the Mystic—it will be to overcome her sorrow, but later it will be to overcome any attachments that contract her into a quivering Me-thing (I may not use those exact terms). … Read more…

A few moments ago I finished the core outline for The Mystic. This outline consists of the key points to be discussed and the way they fit into the story line.

I often gather my ideas by going for a long walk, focusing my mind on the Moment (sort of a walking mindfulness meditation), and waiting for the inevitable inspiration. … Read more…

Until a few years ago, I would often start an exciting new project only to drop it after a few days/weeks. It was usually around that time that the project would start to feel too much like work. My computer is filled with dozens of folders on projects like these.

What I do now, is ask myself, “If you won the lottery, would you still work on this project?”

As I made my way back to Phoenix, as I sought to find a place Morrissette had told me about, as I thought about visiting my family next week, just then a tall dust devil appeared in front of me and I recognized how far from anything I was and I thought, “I’m the only person who sees you,” and She whispered:

Everything is temporary. Everything but us.

And as the whirling column faded away into nothing, I whispered back, “I see you… I see you everywhere.”

Sometimes She sings it to me. Sometimes I sing it to Her: I See You.

I guess in the end… it’s all the same.

And I Said, “Sure.”

She said, “It’s time to leave.”

And I said, “Sure.”

She said, “Turn here.”

And I said, “Sure.”

She said, “Now drive.”

And I said, “Sure.”

And I came across a Poet and he said, “I was just heading out for a walk. Would you care to walk with me?”

And I said, “Sure.” … Read more…
